Guide to classification of camping sites in Denmark

The Danish Camping Board classifies camping sites in Denmark with a star rating. The highest star rating is five stars for luxury camping sites. For example Camping Skanderborg is a 3 star camping site.

1 Star Camping Sites:
The camping site is inspected daily. Reception has site information. Access to telephone, sanitary installations, toilets, sinks and showers
with hot and cold water. May have kitchen facilities.

2 Star Camping Sites:

In addition to the one star facilities: Kitchen and laundry with hot water, shower rooms, playground, camping site is fenced and is staffed from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m in the peak season.  The camping site warden and his deputy have attended a fire course approved by the Danish Camping Board besides a 12-hour standard first-aid course.  A grocery shop is within a 2 km distance. Minimum a quarter of the pitches have electric hook-up points.

3 Star Camping Sites:
In addition to the two star facilities: Staffed day and night. The entrance is closed with a bar, chain or gate between 11 pm. and 7 am. Shopping within maximum 1 km distance, kitchen facilities, nursing rooms for babies, laundry, washing machine and tumbler available. Shower rooms with hot water. 70% of the camping site pitches have electricity. Playgrounds for children offered on site.

4 Star Camping Sites:
In addition to the three star facilities: Playground and ball game area, as well as common room with TV, sanitary room for disabled with own entrance, washing machine and tumbler, separate tent pitch area, bicycle racks, and cycle repair places. A four star camping site also has a lot of activities on the site and scenic surroundings. More than 80% of the pitches have electricity and a minor part of these pitches also have discharge facilities.

5 Star Camping Sites:
In addition to the four star facilities: Means that the site is exceptional as far as facilities, surroundings and activities on the site are concerned. Large shopping store, separate toilet and shower buildings, hairdresser’s, indoor dining room adjacent to one of the kitchens, several playgrounds and commom room with TV. The majority of the site pitches have electric hook-up points and a quarter of these pitches also have discharge facilities. Often has other facilities, such as swimming pool, cafeteria, common room with TV, and various activities.

Camping Skanderborg

Skanderborg is a small town in central Denmark just south of Aarhus. It is known also for Skanderborg castle, the traditional hunting retreat of Danish kings from the 12th-16th centuries. This makes Skanderborg a picturesque camping site.

Camping Skanderborg is a family friendly camping site in Skanderborg.  The camping Skanderborg is stretched over an area of 9ha.A large part of the camping site is not used for camping, but a well cared area where children can play and adults take a walk. The camping site Skanderborg has its own private lakeside, just  300m from the camping site itself reachable by a small path.
